We were looking for a good Italian restaurant and Tortellino d’Oro came up as one of the best traditional Italian restaurant. The place has a really nice setting, white tablecloth, roses on the table, perfect location for a date. We’ve ordered two starters and three mains. Starters were delicious! As for the mains, the saffron risotto is excellent, the mushroom tortellini is good but the cacio e pepe is the worst pasta I ever had. No resemblance to the original cacio e pepe, almost no sauce, just thin pasta covered in lot of oil. Sadly the tiramisu was a disappointed as well, almost no coffee flavor, ladyfingers were very soggy and the chocolate shaving on the top was a bad decision from the chef. Overall if you choose the right dishes you can have a decent meal.
Stunning meal, as always. Truly the best Italian restaurant in Joburg. James & Norman were wonderful waiters. Food is decadently delicious
Superb and cosy restaurant. Food was absolutely incredible, from the shared starters to the main. My colleagues and I sat outside to take in the beautiful view. The seating area is cleverly closed off, so perfect, even in winter.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food here. Their house bread and dips are winner. The calamari starters was very fresh, the salad a bit basic. The mains were nothing short of flavourful . I also loved the pastries they organised for the celebration! Definitely coming back for dessert. The vibe of the place is also cute cafe with ready-made frozen goods you can take home.
Delicious Italian food is always freshly made. It's expensive, but well worth it. Service is very efficient. They also have a wonderful deli that serves freshly-made meals and an extensive assortment of imported Italian pastas and delicacies. I love this restaurant and can never resist popping in whenever I'm in the Houghton/Oaklands area.
Nice upmarket deli turned eatery. Good atmosphere. Late night service a bit slow and lacking on basics like serviettes and a clean table cloth. The kitchen closes at 9pm, get your order in on time. The main meals have tiny portions, and you might leave hungry. The desserts more than make up for it with MASSIVE (almost excessive) portions. Expensive place!! 5 people ordering only coffee and dessert - expect a bill of over R1000. Good quality food. The ONE toilet is not great, but at least it is clean. We will save up and return for a full dinner.
If you want to eat high end Italian food, this restaurant is the place to go. Service is great, food is spot on delicious and the atmosphere is nice. I recommend to reserve a table no matter what day as it gets crowded all the time. It is a bit pricey but the quality is excellent. Restaurant has a deli as well where you can buy ready made meals, pasta, antipasti and bread. And home made gelato: hazelnut and pistachio are to die for.
Hubby and I camehere for Valentines Day. We were greeted well coming into the restaurant. The table was laid out well and set the mood for us. We were given a soup as well as bread with different spreads for starters. For mains we had the chicken picatta and lasagne - - omg! This was probably hands down the best lasagne Ive tasted. We ended the night off with tiramisu and that was also really light, airy and not too sweet. For the service, Alec was really nice although its like he just wanted to clean everything out so quickly and just took things from the table without asking if we were done. So that was the only thing that could be improved. All in all everything was great and we shall be back to try the other things especially the pizza!
